On Monday, January 17, 2022, parents from West Ottawa spoke up for their kids! West Ottawa’s School Board voted 7-0 to remove the mask mandate on students, effective next Monday.

The Holland Sentinel reported:

During the work session, Superintendent Tim Bearden presented data comparing West Ottawa’s case counts to similar sized districts in the area like Zeeland and Hudsonville.

He noted that those districts did not have K-12 mask requirements, but had similar rates of infection among students.

The article includes a quote from Superintendent Bearden:

“It appears to us right now that masks are not making a significant statistical difference in terms of cases currently. We attribute that to a number of factors but primarily that kids are, outside of the school day, unmasked all the time.”
