The 2024 election was about Donald Trump going into the Democrat coalition and breaking it apart.

Ottawa County

On November 5, 2024, President-Elect Donald Trump had more support in Ottawa County than ever.

Votes for Trump

A total of 108,231 votes were cast for Trump in 2024, up from 100,913 in 2020 and 88,467 in 2016.

Even though there was a slight dip in percentage, his margin of victory was 450 votes larger in 2024 than in 2020.

Of the 130 precincts in Ottawa County, Vice President Kamala Harris won 25, but Trump gained ground in 10 of those 25 precincts.

The 2024 vote in Ottawa County helped Trump take back Michigan after Joe Biden won the presidency in 2020.

Michigan

Trump’s 2024 total of 2,804647 votes is the largest ever by a Republican candidate in Michigan.

• Trump raised his total from 2020 by 154,795 votes and up 525,104 from 2016

• Out of the last nine presidential elections, a Republican candidate has carried Michigan only twice—Trump in 2016 and again in 2024

• In Detroit—Michigan’s largest city, where 78% of the population is black—Trump received 19,667 votes, up 52% from the 12,889 votes he received in 2020

• Washtenaw County had a 2.2-point swing towards Trump

• Oakland County had a 3.5-point swing towards Trump

• Macomb County had a 5.6-point swing towards Trump

• Wayne County had a 9.4-point swing towards Trump

Michigan had the most sizable change of the swing states in the age group of 18-29. Harris lost 24% of the youth vote to Trump.

Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk had a huge hand in delivering Michigan’s youth for Trump—and not only in Michigan but also the nation.

• Trump is the first Republican to win the Popular Vote since 2004

• The 2024 election had the best House GOP showing in a presidential year since 1928

• Support for Trump increased across both genders in 2024

Trump gained ground with demographics that Republicans don’t normally consider part of their winning coalition.

• Trump had the best performance of a Republican candidate with black voters in 48 years

• Trump had the best performance for a Republican candidate with Hispanic voters in exit poll history, over 52 years

• Trump gained 22% in first time voters from his 2020 election

The Harris campaign campaigned on hate, while these demographics of voters were struggling with inflation and living paycheck to paycheck. This historic miss by the Democrats shows that they have no idea what the majority of Americans value.

Youth Vote

President Joe Biden won the youth vote by over 25% in 2020. Vice President Kamala Harris is projected to win the youth vote by less than 8%. That is a 17-point swing towards Trump in just four years.

Trump had the best showing for a Republican candidate among 18–29-year-olds in 20 years

• Trump won young men under 30, and young women under 30 also shifted 11 points towards Trump in 2024

According to an article by NPR, Trump focused on social media to reach young voters. Last June, he joined TikTok and in no time gained 14.2 million followers. Trump also appeared in interviews with podcasters such as Joe Rogan and Logan Paul.

Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk, who travels across the country engaging youth in conservative politics, told NPR: “The goal was, of course, to lose by less. But in the last couple of weeks, we were whispering to each other that there might be something bigger.”

Kirk summed up Trump’s appeal to the youth by saying, “They just want to live in the same country as their parents. I don’t know if that’s a social issue or an economic issue. They want a nice life, and they feel it slipping away.”

“It’s more, dare I say, a vibe than anything else,” Kirk added. “For an entire campaign that was built on vibes, they [the Harris campaign] certainly didn’t read the room.”’

The Harris campaign got too comfortable with the demographics they assumed they would win. Their ground game with the youth focused on abortion and reproductive rights. The Harris campaign didn’t realize that the youth of America just want the American Dream.

Looking Forward

Trump won this election by creating a coalition that everyday Americans connected to on a new level.

“This is a movement like nobody’s ever seen before and, frankly, this was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time.”

—Brandon Rottinghaus, Presidential historian and professor at the University of Houston

With Trump and Republicans gaining ground in this historic election, America is looking at a bright future with a growing multiracial and younger conservative population…especially here in Ottawa County where Trump gained ground in the blue sections of the county.
