Early this morning, the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners declared Ottawa County to be a Constitutional County and passed a resolution to preserve and protect the individual freedoms of the people of Ottawa County.

Approximately 50 of 83 Michigan counties have already passed similar resolutions to affirm and uphold the U.S. and Michigan Constitutions.

Passing this resolution is an important landmark because it sets a firm foundation and specific priorities for the county. The board of commissioners is responsible for setting policy and direction for the county.

One person expressed during public comment:

“And if I can’t live in a free country, I want to live in a free county.”

Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting and made public comments. It is important to let your voice be heard.
